Who We Are

The Sagebrush Steppe Regional Land Trust is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.  Our mission is to protect and enhance natural and working lands, now and for future generation, in Southeastern Idaho.  All cash donations to the Land Trust are tax-deductible under the Internal Revenue Service Code.

The Sagebrush Steppe Regional Land was founded in 2003 as local volunteers realized that much of what we value in Southeastern Idaho is in jeopardy.  Our quiet part of the state is being discovered, bought up, and subdivided — leaving behind no trespassing signs and manicured lawns.  We do our work because we believe we have a chance now to help protect this great corner of Idaho before our high quality of life becomes a just a memory.

The Land Trust is governed by its Board of Directors and has one full-time Executive Director.  So far we have protected over 1,100 acres. In the coming years, we are planning to expand our protection efforts across our seven service are counties; Bannock, Bear Lake, Bingham, Caribou, Franklin, Oneida, and Power.  Within these counties we are working in the Bear, Portneuf, Blackfoot, and Snake River watersheds.

We're challenged by development of prime working and natural landscapes that provide critical habitat and working lands for farmers and ranchers.  With the support of our neighbors and partners, we can protect what we love, forever, before it's too late.

Whether you're a local business, resident, or visitor, there's a role for everyone to help protect our mountains, rivers, and wide open spaces that make this region so unique. Your contributions — membership donations, in-kind contributions, volunteer work — helps maintain our region’s unique character and high quality of life that make it such a special place to live, work, and visit for our children and generations to come.
